Welcome to Kusia's Kitchen

Step into my world of childhood flavours and family traditions. This is where I share the story behind the recipes that shaped me, passed down through generations in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. Join me on a culinary journey filled with love, learning, and delicious memories.

My first kitchen memories

My culinary journey began at the tender age of four, always eager to help my grandma in the kitchen. Waking up to special birthday breakfasts from my mom ignited a passion that has burned brightly ever since. We’d spend hours baking cookies, rolls, bread, cakes, and muffins. These early moments were more than just learning to cook; they were about creating cherished memories and feeling the warmth of family love.

Recipes with a story

As I grew, my culinary explorations continued. By eight, I was experimenting with food, perfecting favourites like nachos, eggs benedict, and mac and cheese. My grandma and parents passed down countless recipes, each with its own special place in our family's history. These aren't just dishes; they're stories, traditions, and the heart of our home. From moose stew and bannock to my beloved nachos and homemade fireweed jelly, these recipes carry the legacy of my family.

A legacy for future generations

Today, I love baking and cooking these recipes more than ever. Each time I prepare one, I feel connected to my family, to the lessons, and to the love that went into teaching me. My greatest hope is that when my future kids make these recipes, they too will feel the same joy. I want them to experience the warmth and connection that comes from continuing a culinary tradition passed down from their grandparents to their mother, right here in Whitehorse.

"Food is not just sustenance; it's love, it's memory, it's family. Every dish tells a story."
